What is Electrofusion Welding?
Electrofusion (EF) welding is a method of joining polyethylene (PE) pipes and fittings using embedded heating elements. The fitting contains a resistance wire that, when energised, melts the PE material of both the fitting and the pipe, creating a permanent, homogeneous joint.
Why Electrofusion?
Electrofusion is the preferred jointing method for gas distribution networks and is widely used in water supply systems because:
- Creates a 100% leak-proof joint
- Joint strength equals or exceeds the pipe itself
- Suitable for all sizes from 20mm to 315mm
- Can be performed in confined spaces
- Barcode traceability ensures quality control
